OAK OASIS: A Blend of Modern Design and Timeless Tranquility

Welcome to the Oak Oasis kitchen, where modern tranquility meets functionality in a beautifully designed space. This kitchen reflects a seamless blend of earthy elements and California modern aesthetics, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels both chic and grounded.

Design Intent

The vision behind Oak Oasis was to emulate a sense of calm while enhancing the kitchen’s functionality. The design prioritizes a layout that flows intuitively, making it a joy to cook and entertain. By combining neutral woods with striking white and matte black finishes, we’ve achieved a sophisticated contrast that breathes life into the space.

Thoughtful Details

The square-shaped range hood serves as a focal point, perfectly complementing the clean lines of the 5/8" thin shaker and flat door/drawer profiles. Clad in solid oak and reeded wood paneling, the 42” range hood introduces a touch of softness and elegance, harmonizing beautifully with the overall design.

The Taj Mahal quartzite countertop enhances the organic feel of the kitchen, its subtle veining echoing the natural elements throughout. Inside the cabinetry, oak plywood and wooden dovetail drawers are used consistently, reinforcing the kitchen’s earthy vibe. The 3” thick, flat end panels on the island provide a sense of sturdiness and sophistication.

Functionality Meets Aesthetic

This kitchen is not just about looks; it’s designed with modern living in mind. Keeping ergonomics and aging in place at the forefront, all base cabinets feature drawers and various pull-out storage options—think corner unit trays, spice racks, and a three-bin garbage/recycle unit. A custom cutlery divider ensures that everything has its place, enhancing the kitchen’s functionality.

We’ve also increased the upper cabinet depths to 14 5/8” to accommodate larger plates, and we removed the bulkhead to emphasize the ceiling height with tall upper cabinets. For a minimal, modern aesthetic, the upper cabinets meet the ceiling, featuring a flush-installed, flat fascia that eliminates the need for crown molding.

A Layout for Living

One of the most transformative changes was the removal of the peninsula from the pantry wall. This opened up the space, allowing for a spacious island that serves as a central hub, perfectly aligned with the sliding doors that invite natural light. The range was relocated to the east wall, facing the living room, while the sink moved to the island, providing a sociable layout that lets the user engage with guests instead of facing a wall.

A tall glass display cabinet next to the pantry showcases the stunning rift-cut white oak interior and thick shelves, adding length and personality to the design. This cabinet stands in front of a vertical bulkhead that cleverly conceals fixed compartments, ensuring that the space remains clean and uncluttered.

Illuminating Elegance

To maintain a clean, minimal aesthetic, we incorporated a built-in light valance box that houses under-cabinet LED strip lighting, illuminating the workspace while adding warmth to the atmosphere.
